There is no question that former baseball star Lenny Dykstra has led a fascinating life. He finally has put several of those stories together in his memoir, "House of Nails: The Construction, The Demolition, The Resurrection".
Dykstra is making several appearances promoting the book and today he makes a stop in Northvale, New Jersey. At 5 p.m., he will be signing copies of the book at Books and Greetings.
Those who attend must purchase a copy of the book ($27.99) to get a place in the autograph line. The memoir covers a variety of topics, from his playing career to the crazy trappings of fame he experienced off the field.
Dykstra played for only two franchises, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. He is considered an all-time fan favorite with both teams.
In 1985, Dykstra debuted for the Mets and quickly became an important cog in a rising team. The following season, he hit leadoff and played center field while helping New York win a classic World Series in seven games over the Boston Red Sox.
Dykstra was traded to the Phillies in 1989 and went on to make three National League All-Star teams. In 1993, he finished runner-up in NL MVP voting and led Philadelphia to the World Series.
