The Illinois Health & Lung Foundation is hosting Women's Health Night on April 25th. They have brought in former Olympic champion Jackie Joyner-Kersee to serve as keynote speaker.
The 19th annual event takes place from 3-8 p.m. at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center. Joyner-Kersee will talk about overcoming asthma to achieve the pinnacle of track and field excellence.
The event is completely free, including complimentary screenings, child care and education. In addition to speaking, Joyner-Kersee will also participate in a Fun Run/Walk.
Joyner-Kersee had an iconic Olympic career that spanned across four Games. She made her debut in 1984 and captured a silver medal in the heptathlon.
Four years later, Joyner-Kersee won gold in the event while adding another gold in the long jump. She medaled again in both events in 1992 and finished her Olympic run on American soil with a bronze in the long jump in 1996.
Joyner-Kersee still holds the world record in the heptathlon and ranks second all-time in the long jump. She is currently on the Board of Directors for USA Track & Field.
