After completing a storied college career at the University of California, swimmer Ryan Murphy became a professional this month. Along with his announcement, he now has an endorsement deal with the top swimming brand, Speedo.
Top names in the sport like Nathan Adrian, Conor Dwyer and Cullen Jones are already Team Speedo. The company is banking on Murphy to perhaps be the new top face in the sport.
He will have his first opportunity to represent Speedo at the USA Swimming 66 National Championships. In addition to wearing their apparel, he will also be an active participant in a bevy of community initiatives.
Murphy recently capped his college career by winning the 100 and 200 meter backstroke events for the fourth time at the NCAA Championships. He was a three-time Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year for the Golden Bears.
At the 2016 Olympics, Murphy became an international star in the sport when he won the 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke and 4x100 medley. He set a new world record in the 100 m backstroke in the first leg of the medley relay event.
Murphy is also a four-time World Championship medalist. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, but went to high school in Jacksonville, Florida at the Bolles School.
