Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn has been making the rounds this spring, speaking to various groups and alumni clubs about the Tigers upcoming 2017 season. On Thursday, he wrapped his visits at the Lake Martin Auburn Club.
The event was held at the Willow Point Golf Course. Malzahn was able to answer several questions from the audience, but would not delve into the conversation over who may be the Auburn starting quarterback for 2017.
He also talked about changes to the offense and the continuity coming back on defense. This is Malzahn's last formal speaking engagement until he appears at SEC Media Days on July 13th.
Malzahn is entering his fifth season with the Tigers. In his first year, he took a team that had not won a SEC game the previous year to the BCS National Championship Game.
That season, Auburn won their eight SEC title and Malzahn won several national coach of the year awards. Prior to becoming the head coach, he was the Tigers offensive coordinator from 2009-11 and helped lead the program to the 2010 BCS National Championship.
Malzahn began his coaching career by spending over 15 seasons on the high school level. The offensive guru got his first opportunity in college as the offensive coordinator at Arkansas in 2006.
