Another one of the top players in next week's NBA Draft has been snatched up by Nike. Following the acquisition of potential number one pick Ben Simmons, Nike has reportedly agreed to an endorsement deal with former Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield.
Hield has a multiyear deal for footwear and apparel. There is no doubt that there is significant marketability in working with the sharpshooter.
In lieu of letting back-to-back NBA MVP Stephen Curry get away to Under Armour, Nike is making an active effort to strengthen their basketball division. There could certainly be more signings announced in the days leading up to and following next Thursday's draft.
Hield certainly has the potential to be a big breakout star for the company. As a senior last year, he swept every major National College Player of the Year award.
In addition, Hield is a back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Year. Last season, he led the nation in three-point shots and averaged 25 points per game.
Hield scored 2,291 points in his Sooners career, good enough for first in Big 12 history and second in the OU record books. He also has all-time Oklahoma marks for threes made and attempted.
