Track & Field Legend Jim Ryun Shares Christian Message at Men's Conference Saturday

For a certain generation of American, track and field legend Jim Ryun was one of their biggest sports heroes. He has also gone on to a successful life as a politician and has traveled the country sharing his inspirational faith-based message.

On Saturday, Ryun is speaking at the Iron Sharpens Iron Men's Conference at The First Cathedral in Hartford, Connecticut. The conference is inter-denominational and geared towards teenage boys and men.

Ryan will speak to the men about "Connecting with God" and run a motivational seminar for the teenagers titled, "Doing Small Things Well." Iron Sharpens Iron regularly hosts conferences for men all across the country.

Ryun was the first high schooler to run the mile in under four minutes and he still holds five of the six fastest mile times in U.S. high school history. In 1966, he set world records for the half-mile and mile.

That year, Ryun was named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year and won the James V. Sullivan Award as the top athlete in America. He competed in three Olympics and won a silver medal in the 1500-meters in 1968.

Ryun is a member of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame and the National Distance Running Hall of Fame. He served Kansas as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1996-2007.
