Just months out from this summer's Olympic games, one ex-Team USA star will fire up one local community. Track legend Jackie Joyner-Kersee is speaking at the 8th annual Lou and Mary Henson Community Breakfast on April 14th.
The breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. It raises money for the Las Cruces Boys & Girls Fund.
Sponsorship packages for the event range from $500-$5000. All sponsors will get VIP tickets to a cocktail reception for Joyner-Kersee.
Sports Illustrated named Joyner-Kersee "The Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century". Overall, she accumulated six Olympic medals over four different Games.
Joyner-Kersee broke onto the Olympic stage in 1988, winning gold medals in heptathlon and long jump in Seoul. She also won four World Championship medals in her career.
Joyner-Kersee still holds the heptathlon world record and is second on the all-time long jump chart. She has devoted her post-competitive life to philanthropy and serves on the Board of Directors for USA Track & Field as well.
