UCLA Basketball Coach Steve Alford Keynotes Special Olympics Breakfast Next Month

UCLA basketball coach Steve Alford is getting out in the community this summer for a special speaking engagement. On June 10th, he is keynoting the Special Olympics Southern California's annual Rafer Johnson Breakfast with Champions.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the student union ballroom at California State University, Long Beach. The breakfast is being held in concert with the beginning of the SOSC Summer Games.

Individual tickets are $75 and sponsorship opportunities are also available. All proceeds benefit the SOSC.

Alford has taken the Bruins to three Sweet Sixteens in four seasons as coach. This past year, UCLA went 31-5 and finished third in the Pac-12 Conference.

Alford came to Los Angeles after guiding New Mexico to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. He also coached at Iowa, Southwest Missouri State and Manchester.

Alford became one of the great college basketball players of all-time at the University of Indiana. He helped the Hoosiers win the 1987 NCAA Championship, was a three-time first-team All-Big Ten pick and left as the program's all-time leading scorer.
