After taking more than a few punches from Holly Holm, ex-UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is apparently out to prove she can take a few jokes too. Rousey, whose popularity has mushroomed even outside of the sports world, has signed on to host NBC"s Saturday Night Live on January 23rd.
She will be the first MMA athlete to host SNL, a show that has been center stage to the biggest names in sports throughout the years. In addition to Rousey, the January 23rd show will feature musical guest Selena Gomez.
Crossing over into realms of mainstream entertainment is nothing new for Rousey. With her roles in Expendables 3, Furious 7, and the Entourage Movie, she is already budding star on the big screen.
Intrigue and discussion around Rousey have only grown in the days following her title loss at UFC 193 to Holm. Currently, a rematch for the belt is slated for UFC 200 this July.
Prior to the defeat, Rousey has six successful title defenses and had finished all of those fights except one in the first round. Overall, she is now 13-1 as a professional and has won the UFC's Performance of the Night award four times.
Rousey has won the ESPY for Best Female Athlete two years running. As a sign of her continued popularity, she finished 2015 as the third most searched person in the world on Google.
