Woodley joined top performance coach Ben Newman earlier in December. They spoke to area athletes and business leaders at an event hosted by Kurtis Fox, Coach at the Muscle Hut Performance Centre.
Woodley talked about overcoming the adversity of a tough upbringing to become a UFC champion. He outlined his remarkable transformation from running with gangs to finding God.
Woodley has a background in wrestling prior to getting involved in MMA. He was a two-time All-American and the 2003 Big 12 champion at the University of Missouri.
In 2009, Woodley made his professional debut and he was signed to Strikeforce after his first two fights. He won the first ten fights of his career before losing the Strikeforce Welterweight Championship to Nate Marquardt.
The UFC signed Woodley in 2013 and he scored notable early wins against Josh Koscheck and Carlos Condit. He won the UFC Welterweight Championship over Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 and has since had three successful title defenses.
