Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen is heading back to where some of his earliest origins in the sport can be traced. He is serving as the commencement speaker at his alma mater, Ursinus College.
The 144th ceremony will be held on May 14th at 2 p.m. on the Berman Museum lawn. In addition to speaking, Mullen will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
While at the school, he was a two-time letterman on the football team playing tight end. Mullen graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science.
Mullen has been the head coach at MSU for eight seasons and brought unprecedented success to the school. In 2014, he led the Bulldogs to a 10-3 record and second place finish in the SEC West.
Mississippi State made their third major bowl appearance in program history with a trip to the Orange Bowl and finished inside the top 15. Overall, MSU has had just one losing season under Mullen's watch.
Before becoming a head coach, Mullen was an assistant under Urban Meyer at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida. He started his coaching career at Wagner and Columbia before accepting graduate assistant posts at Syracuse and Notre Dame.
