It has been a banner week for budding U.S. track and field star Jarrion Lawson. He registered the top long jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials and still has qualification for the 200m to go.
That is on the heels of signing his first endorsement deal with the athletic apparal brand Asics last Thursday. Lawson will wear Asics shoes in his long jump and sprinting competitions.
Behind Nike, Asics has the second-highest market share for performance runners. Lawson's deal has lucrative incentives in place that guarantee him more money if he scores big victories.
There is no doubt that he already has plenty of signature wins on his resume. At last month's NCAA Outdoor Championships, Lawson became the first athlete since Jesse Owens in 1936 to win the 100m, 200m and long jump at the same event.
That haul added up to a career total of six NCAA Championships while at the University of Arkansas. He was also a two-time indoor long jump champion and won the 4x100 relay title with his Razorback teammates in 2015.
Lawson is a 15-time All-American. He is one of five nominees at next week's ESPY Awards for Best Male Collegiate Athlete.
