Utah Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio is getting into the scooter business. SKULLY Technologies has enlisted him as a brand ambassador for their Torrot brand.
Torrot offers a line of zero-emissions electric interconnected motorbikes and bicycles. The Spanish company hopes to use Rubio's notoriety as it enters into the North American market.
They will enter the United States this upcoming year, starting with Atlanta's moto-sharing company, MUVING. Rubio is particularly interested in Torrot's Velocipedo model.
Rubio is in his first season with the Jazz after spending six seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is coming off his best season where he averaged career-highs with 11.1 points and 9.1 assists per game while shooting over 40 percent from the field.
The Timberwolves originally selected Rubio with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. He was a highly-regarded Spanish basketball prodigy who became the youngest player ever in the Spanish ACB League at the age of 15.
Rubio won three straight FIBA Young Player of the Year awards from 2007-09 and was a EuroLeague Rising Star in 2010. He has won two Olympic medals while competing for Spain.
