With a successful first year at the helm of Valparaiso basketball, head coach Matt Lottich has entrenched himself in the local community. He has been recently invited to serve as the keynote speaker at the Calumet Sportsmanship Dinner.
The 64th annual event takes place on February 19th at the Halls of St. George in Schereville, Indiana. Teams that participate in the East Chicago Central, Merrillville, Hammond Civic Center, Calumet, and Hebron sectional high school basketball tournaments will be honored.
The dinner was inaugurated by the East Chicago Manufacturers Association and the Hammond Manufacturers Association. Lottich should provide a unique perspective from a life spent in basketball.
Last season, Lottich guided the Crusaders to a 24-9 mark and 14-4 record in the Horizon League. The team won the Horizon League regular season championship and were selected to play in the NIT.
Prior to being named head coach, Lottich spent three seasons as an assistant at Valpo. He had previously played basketball for nine years overseas in New Zealand, Germany and Japan.
Lottich was a college basketball standout for four seasons at Stanford. In his final campaign, he was named All-Pac 10 honorable mention and the Cardinal won the conference title.
