Wayne Gretzky Speaks at the 55th Annual Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner

Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was the keynote speaker for the 55th Annual Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner in Saskatchewan on Friday, February 6 where another hockey legend, Gordie Howe was in attendance as well.

The former NHL superstar first started his professional hockey career in 1978 when he signed on with the Edmonton Oilers, and by the 1979-1980 seasons he was given the title of the League’s MVP when he was awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy. In addition to that, in 1982 Gretzky broke a long time record set by Maurice Richard in which he scored 50 goals during a total of 50 games.

The Canada native continued his career in the NHL by also playing for the Los Angeles King, Saint Louis Blues, and then with the New York Rangers until his retirement in 1999. He also participated in several international events where he played on behalf of his home country, including a few Canada Cup games and the 1998 Winter Olympics during his active years. After he retired from the sport Gretzky almost immediately got inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a couple months later his jersey number 99 was officially retired at the 2000 NHL All-Star Game.
