Last week with the NBA Finals in full gear, the Golden State Warriors Basketball Camp was also in action in Napa. WNBA legend Ruthie Bolton was the headliner for the week-long event at Justin-Siena’s Clark Gym.
There were 110 children ages 7-15 that participated in the camp. Each day lasts six hours and features team competitions in addition to individual instruction.
The Warriors host camps all summer long throughout the region. In addition to Bolton, several players and coaches with high school and college experience helped to instruct the group.
Bolton shared with the campers her twisting road to the top of women’s professional basketball. She ended up scoring over 2,000 points in her WNBA career after playing eight seasons for the Sacramento Monarchs.
In 2011, Bolton got inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She is also the only player to have her number retired by the Monarchs.
Along with her WNBA accomplishments, Bolton is also a two-time gold medalist. In retirement, she has been both a college and high school basketball head coach.
