Youngstown State Baseball Names Cleveland Indians Hall of Famer Carlos Baerga First Pitch Breakfast Speaker

Youngstown State Baseball has gotten one of the all-time great major leaguers who played in the state of Ohio to speak at their First Pitch Breakfast. Cleveland Indians Hall of Famer Carlos Baerga is the special guest on February 11th. 

Doors open at 8 a.m. for the event that takes place off campus at The Embassy in Boardman. In addition to hearing from Baerga, attendees have the opportunity to meet the 2017 YSU baseball team. 

Penguins' alum and former major league pitcher Justin Thomas will also be on hand. Individual general admission tickets are $20, reserved seats are $30 and tables are available for $300. 

Baerga is best remembered for his time with the Indians from 1990-96. He made three American League All-Star teams and won two Silver Slugger Awards. 

In addition, he was one of the players that led a return to success for the franchise. He played for five other teams and retired with a .292 career average and over 1,500 hits. 

In retirement, Baerga has been a popular Spanish language baseball broadcaster. He also has done some managing work in Puerto Rico and was a coach for the Puerto Rican squad at the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
