American Track Legend Dick Fosbury Speaks at SOSC Awards Banquet in February

Dick Fosbury is a pioneer in the world of track and field. He will get to share some about his accomplishments in February as the keynote speaker at the Southern Oregon Sports Commission annual awards banquet. 

The third annual event takes place on February 9th in Medford at Santo Community Center. Fosbury spent his teenage years in the area and will focus his presentation on innovation. 

In addition to Fosbury's speech, the SOSC male and female athletes of the year will be announced. Individual tickets are $30 while a pack of four is $100. 

Fosbury is one of the most influential people in the history of the high jump. His "Fosbury Flop" became the name of the technique that is used by most jumpers today. 

In 1968, Fosbury won the gold medal while setting a new Olympic record. Prior to his run in Olympic competition, he won the Pac-8 and NCAA titles as an athlete at Oregon State. 

Today, Fosbury serves on the World Olympians Association executive board. He is a co-founder of the non-profit World Fit and a member of Champions for Peace.
