NCAA National Champion wrestler Anthony Robles was the guest speaker at the Broward Center for performing Arts on Wednesday, January 21 to kick the Broward College Speaker Series.
"I've been very fortunate to have spoken to colleges and pro sports teams and businesses, and it's been a lot of fun," said Robles. "I'm just trying to improve each time I go out there. That's honestly the way I look at it. I review how the event went, and I can never be satisfied."
Robles was born without a right leg, but overcame that obstacle to achieve greatness in wrestling. During his speaking engagements his goal is to show that we all have challenges, but they can be overcome.
"I want to share that it's realistic," he said. "I wanted to give up. I really considered it. But we all face that sometimes, and I want to show it. And you don't have to be undefeated. If you're not on your A game 24-7, you have to keep trying. It's important to do well also when you're not on your A game."
In 2011, Robles captured a National Championship in the 125-pound weight class while wrestling at Arizona State University. His undefeated 36-0 record that year inspired millions, and his life has since become the inspiration for his book "Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion." He has since become a highly sought after motivational speaker, traveling the country to encourage others who may be suffering through adversity in their own lives.
