The Jimmy V Perseverance Award has created many memorable moments and honored some of the most inspirational people in sports. At the 2015 ESPYs, that honor will be bestowed upon Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still and his daughter Leah.
Four-year-old Leah was originally diagnosed stage-4 neuroblastoma in June 2014. She has been fighting ever since and her dad has been right alongside her.
Still was kept on the Bengals practice squad in 2014 so he could financially care for his daughter. He has become an outspoken voice for pediatric cancer awareness.
The award will be presented to the father-daughter duo on July 15th during the ESPYS at the Nokia Theater LA Live. Other previous winners include former wrestler Anthony Robles and the late sportscaster Stuart Scott.
The Bengals originally selected Still in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He did get healthy last season and ended up playing in 12 games for the team, a career high.
At Penn State, Still was a star, earning consensus All-American honors and the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year award in 2011. He was also the team’s captain that season.
