Cal Ripken Jr. Signs Copies of his New Children's Book at Barnes & Noble

Legendary MLB player Cal Ripken Jr. set up an event at a Barnes & Nobles in New Jersey on Monday to pre-release his new children’s book, “Out at Home.” The book is the fifth in a series created in 2011 that was co-written by Ripken Jr. and Kevin Cowherd, who is a well-known sports columnist formerly writing for the Baltimore Sun. The book signing event took place at 5:30pm on March 2nd, even though the official release of the book is March 3rd.

The 19-time All-Star MLB player had a career in the sport for two decades, and even became a World Series Champion in 1983. He also is the two-time receiver of the Golden Glove Award and eight-time recipient of the Silver Slugger Award. After his playing career ended, he went on to do a lot of charity work both locally and abroad.

The former shortstop and third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles had been house hunting a while ago and while looking in the child’s room during a walk through of the home he noticed a baseball signed by him on the shelf. At the sight of the sloppy signature he left, he began to feel badly about what a poor quality he had done and decided to start putting more effort into his fans. This was part of the inspiration for the book signing this month, as he truly loves to make both children and his fans happy.
