Several years after retirement from a 14-season big league baseball career, Chris Hammond continues to impact lives.  Most recently, his foundation presented a check for $2,500 to Huffman Park Youth Baseball in Alabama. 

Hammond wanted to support his local community group.  He handed out the donation during the opening night at Huffman Park on April 9th. 

The money will go towards field conditions and lighting at the facility.  The Chris Hammond Foundation holds their biggest annual event, a celebrity golf tournament, June 7th and 8th at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham.

New Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox will be the keynote speaker at that event for the pitcher who proved to be a reliable relief arm out of the Braves’ bullpen.  Hammond originally was drafted and pitched for the Cincinnati Reds.

He started his career as a starter and was a member of the inaugural Florida Marlins in 1993.  However, his best season came as a reliever in Atlanta in 2002.  Hammond posted a 0.95 ERA in 76 innings of work that year. 

Now his foundation impacts various schools and youth organizations in and around the Birmingham area.  Hammond is driven to service through his strong Christian faith.
