Clippers Head Coach Doc Rivers Headlines Marketing Push Behind New Logo

After a new logo reveal sparked plenty of conversation, the Los Angeles Clippers sent some of their biggest names out into the public to spread awareness about the rebranding Thursday.

Head coach and President of Basketball Operations Doc Rivers bought lunch and handed out shirts to fans at LA’s legendary Pink’s Hot Dogs.  Other team ambassadors, including owner Steve Ballmer were dispatched to other locales throughout the metro area.

Some lucky passengers at LAX this morning found shirts on their chairs at the departure gates.  On the final day of classes at Stauffer Middle School, students there also got a similar surprise.

It is all part of the marketing campaign Ballmer kicked off Wednesday night by appearing on TBS’ “Conan” with the new imaging in toe.  With the fresh logos and jerseys, Ballmer wanted to help continue branding a new Clippers organization that has already got the needed on-court boost thanks in part to the efforts of Rivers.

In two seasons under Rivers, LA has been to the Western Conference Semifinals each season.  Overall, he has a head coaching record of 700-524 over 14 NBA seasons.

Rivers went to two NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics and won a championship in 2008.  His first head coaching gig was with the Orlando Magic, where he spent parts of five seasons and went to the playoffs three times.

Rivers also had a successful 13-year playing career and was an All-Star with the Atlanta Hawks in 1988.  After a successful basketball life that has spanned three decades, the last thing left for him to accomplish is leading the Clippers to their first title in franchise history.
