Over the past seven years, Dallas Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen has become a fixture in the community. Earlier this month, he had the opportunity to attend a fun event to give back to a good cause.
On March 16th, Lehtonen walked in the Blackout Goes Green Pet Fashion Show at the Dallas hotspot Sisu. Other members of the stars also joined him with their own dogs and rescues from East Dallas Pet Rescue.
The event raised awareness and funds for the rescue operation as well as the Dallas Stars Foundation. General admission was $20 while VIP admission cost $30 and a VIP Runway seat ran $50.
Lehtonen is 22-10-0-2 this season in net with over 1,000 saves and a 90.5 save percentage. He has helped the Stars to a current tie atop the Western Conference standings.
Last season, Lehtonen tied a career-high with 34 wins and became one of just five goalies to record at least five wins in four of the last five years. He originally arrived in Dallas via trade after spending the first five years of his career with the Atlanta Thrashers.
The Thrashers selected him second overall in 2002, making him the highest-drafted European goaltender and Finnish player in NHL history. With Finland, he won a bronze medal at the 2014 Olympics.
