Detroit Pistons Forward Tobias Harris Returns Home for Speaking Tour

Detroit Pistons forward Tobias Harris got another lesson on the transient nature of the NBA when he was traded near the deadline this past season from the Orlando Magic.  While he knows the city where he plays basketball may always change, there is no doubt about the unbreakable bond he feels with his hometown.

Harris is back in Long Island this week giving words of wisdom to a new generation.  He is conducting a speaking tour with various middle and high schools.

Some of Harris' message revolves around setting goals.  In addition to Long Island, he is also making visits to schools in nearby Uniondale, Westbury and Wyandanch.

After his midseason trade, Harris became a key piece of a Pistons team that captured their first playoff berth since 2009.  In 17 regular season games with the club, he averaged 16.6 points a game while shooting 47.7% from the field.

Harris spent parts of four seasons with the Magic and became a go-to scorer for the rebuilding team.  He has several big time performances while in Orlando and this past offseason agreed to a four-year, $64 million extension.

The Milwaukee Bucks originally selected Harris in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.  He played one collegiate season at Tennessee, where he averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.
