Dick Fosbury Named Speaker at the Janss Pro-Am Classic Fundraising Awards Dinner

One of the most influential and well-known athletes in track and field, Dick Fosbury will be the guest speaker at the Janss Pro-Am Classic Fundraising Awards dinner on Saturday March 7, at Sun Valley Inn Limelight Room. The Janss Pro-Am Classic is an event that includes 26 teams of talented skiers and snowboarders who compete to raise money for scholarships to give to students.

Fosbury competed in the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City in the high jump event for Team USA and not only took home the gold, but also set a new Olympic record. His winning jump reached 2.24 meters which he did while showing off his very specific and unique technique for the sport, which was later named the “Fosbury Flop.”. This style of jumping that he created was an inspiration for high jumping athletes and is still used today in events. In 2014, Fosbury also ran for the Democratic seat in the Idaho House of Representatives, but lost to the other candidate, Republican Steve Miller. In addition to that, he currently serves on the executive board of the World Olympians Association.

The 68 year old athlete is going to be the main speaker for the Janss Pro-Am Classic Fundraising Awards dinner this coming Saturday, March 7, to help raise money to provide worthy students of scholarships. It should be a lot of fun, as the winter sports events will also take place at the same location over the weekend.
