While he is now a television star as part of ESPN’s college football coverage, the path to success for David Pollack began in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Friday night, Pollack was inducted into the Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame along with six others.
The event benefited the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation. Pollack’s coach at Shiloh High School, Ed Shaddix, got to introduce him and legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley was the keynote speaker.
Pollack devoted a portion of his induction speech to a story about the time he almost quit football while in high school, but was talked out of the decision by Shaddix. Pollack would go on to be one of the best Bulldogs of all-time, racking up three first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC selections.
In his final college season, Pollack was the SEC Player of the Year, Bednarik Award winner, and Lombardi Award recipient. The Cincinnati Bengals selected him 17th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft and he would play two seasons before suffering a career-ending injury.
Pollack’s legacy off the field still lives on due to his high-profile status at ESPN. He is a game analyst on ESPN College Football Primetime every Thursday and a contributor to the wildly successful College Gameday show.
