Former All-Pro linebacker Derrick Brooks revels in any opportunity he gets to return home to Pensacola. Later this month, he will be back in town as the keynote speaker at the Southern League All-Star Luncheon.
The event is being put on at New World Landing by the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on June 20th. At the luncheon, former baseball standouts Tom Glavine, Tony LaRussa and Gabe Kapler will be honored as Southern League Hall of Famers.
All of the players participating in the SL All-Star Game will be in attendance. Individual tickets and group tables are still available.
After playing at Pensacola's Washington High School, Brooks became a two-time consensus All-American at Florida State. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers then selected him in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft.
Brooks was an 11-time Pro Bowler and nine-time All-Pro. In 2002, he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year and helped the Buccaneers to a win in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Brooks is a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. He remains active in the Tampa Bay community and is a co-owner and president of the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm.
