Former Baseball Manager Jim Leyland Keynotes CFMA Buckeye Regional Conference

While Jim Leyland is not presiding over a baseball team anymore, he still has words to inspire. He shared an impactful message as the keynote speaker at the Construction Financial Management Association Buckeye Regional Conference on Wednesday.

The event was held at Fifth Third Center at One SeaGate in Toledo, Ohio. Leyland is a native of nearby Perrysburg making him an ideal fit as a speaker.

He made parallels between running a construction business and leading a baseball team. Leyland also took some photos and talked baseball with attendees following his presentation.

Leyland became one of the best managers in baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He managed the team from 1986-96, won three straight division titles and was named National League Manager of the Year twice.

Leyland moved on to the Florida Marlins in 1997 and won a World Series in his first season with the franchise. He spent one more season with the Marlins and a year managing the Colorado Rockies before taking a sabbatical from the bench.

In his first year back with the Detroit Tigers, they won the American League pennant and he was the 2006 AL Manager of the Year. Overall, he won 700 games with the Tigers and currently works for the team as a special assistant.
