Former Duke University and NBA star Christian Laettner gave a talk to some St. Xavier students last Wednesday evening in their school gymnasium.

The two-time NCAA Champion played in the NBA for nearly 20 years leaving the sport with a career total of 11,121 points scored, 5,806 rebounds and 2,224 assists over the span of all his games. In 1992 he achieved the title of the ACC Player of the Year and National College Player of the Year awards. In addition to that, he brought home a bronze medal when he played for the United States National Team in the 1990 FIBA World Championship.

Laettner he also won gold medals playing with Team USA in the 1992 Olympic Games. Now at age 45, Laettner runs the Christian Laettner Basketball Academy which allows kids of all ages to get into the game and learn some new skills. During his speech at the school, he told the students about how he misses playing professional basketball, but he was unable to continue due to injuries and a doctor’s order.

Hopefully events like this will inspire future professional basketball players to do their best and aim for a great success the way Laettner had.
