Olympic gymnastics viewers will encounter a familiar face when watching this summer's coverage from Rio.  Former gold medal gymnast Nastia Luikin is making her Olympic broadcasting debut at the Games.

She joins NBC's lead gymnastics commentating team of Al Trautwig and Tim Daggett.  Following her retirement from competition, Liukin got involved with the network as an NBCOlympics.com contributor during the 2012 Olympics in London.

Ever since, she has been covering any world or national-level gymnastics events that NBC broadcasts.  Liukin and her broadcast partners will have several oppportunities to prepare for their assignment, including the upcoming U.S. Men's and Women's Olympic Trials. 

Liukin will go down in the annals of U.S. gymnastics history for winning Olympic all-around gold in 2008.  She also scooped up three silver medals and a bronze in individual events at the Games.

Her five medals tied Shannon Miller for the largest haul by any American gymnast in a non-boycotted Olympics.  Liukin's nine career medals at the World Championships tie her as well with Miller for third in U.S. history.  

On the balance beam, she was the 2005 and 2007 world champion.  In addition, Liukin was the all-around U.S. national champion on four occasions.
