Ex-New York Mets pitcher Ron Darling has plenty of stories to tell from his baseball career. He most recently wrote a book centered around one of the most interesting teams he ever played for, the 1986 World Series champion Mets.
Today, Darling is signing copies of "Game, 7 1986: Failure and Triumph in the Biggest Game of My Life" in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He will be at Bookends on 211 E. Ridgewood Ave. beginning at 7 p.m.
Those who purchase the book for $25.99 at Bookends can get a free signature from Darling. On April 21st, he will also sign copies at the Yogi Berra Museum in Little Falls, New Jersey, starting at 6 p.m.
Darling pitched 14 innings without allowing an earned run in the 1986 World Series leading into a deciding Game 7. While he got roughed up for three early runs in that game, the Mets still held on to win the second championship in team history.
While that was a career highlight, Darling had many other achievements in a career that saw him win 136 games. In 1985, he was selected as a National League All-Star and finished the season 16-6 with a 2.90 ERA.
Darling was a tremendous fielder as well, winning the NL Gold Glove for pitchers in 1989. Today, he is a successful broadcaster, working the postseason for TBS in addition to his national duties for MLB Network and local television work for the Mets.
