While it has been several years since the Seattle Sonics left town, citizens of the Emerald City still hold their former basketball stars in high regard. Retired NBA star Shawn Kemp recently rejuvinated that nostalgia with a unique marketing campaign.
Spirit Airlines brought Kemp on board to help promote their new flight routes to and from Seattle. Kemp dressed up in a bright yellow SaveSquatch character and made his way around the city.
The SaveSquatch was based on the mythical creature that inhabits forests in the Pacifc Northwest. At an event, it was revealed that the man behind the costume was Kemp.
Kemp was a six-time All-Star and three-time second-team All-NBA selection. He played 14 seasons in the league and spent the first eight with the Sonics.
As a key piece on contending Seattle teams, Kemp became a dominant force in the league and helped the franchise reach the 1996 NBA Finals. He actually posted the best two individual scoring sasons of his career after being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Kemp finished his career with the Portlant Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic. He was originally a first round pick of Seattle in the 1989 NBA Draft.
