In preparation for the Memorial Day weekend, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach headlined a group of over 30 NFL alumni in a charity game against the Wounded Warriors Amputee Football Team.   Many of the area’s veterans turned out to Jesuit High School in Dallas to watch the flag football match-up.

The Wounded Warriors came out victorious 54-28, extending their record in such showdowns to 11-0.  Two of the game’s sponsors, Humana and the Military Benefit Association donated $350,000 to the WWAFT. 

Other players who attended included Hall of Famers like Chad Hennings, Charles Haley, and Tim Brown.

Staubach played for the Wounded Warriors and his participation was especially poignant given his military background.  He was the last player at Navy to win the Heisman Trophy and went on to serve several years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Staubach would then star for the Dallas Cowboys, making six Pro Bowls and winning two Super Bowl titles.  He dominated pro football in the 1970s with the Cowboys taking five Super Bowl trips overall.
