College basketball analyst Jay Bilas has been announced as the keynote speaker for the Kentucky Derby Festival luncheon next month. Each year before the Kentucky Derby horse racing event, this luncheon marks as the annual kick off to get everyone excited and in celebration mode. This will take place on April 17 at 11:30 a.m. and it will be hosted at Galt House East Hotel in the Grand Ballroom. In order to attend, tickets will have to be purchased at $85 per person or $680 to cover a table of eight people.
Bilas was originally drafted in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks and played there for a while as well as for Italian and Spanish teams overseas. From 1990 to 1992, he worked for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke University for three seasons as the assistant coach for the team, as he was also a law student at Duke as well. However, ever since 1995 Bilas has been working as a color commentator and studio analyst for ESPN. In addition to that, he has acted as a co-host for the ESPN shows “College GameNight” and “College GameDay” alongside Rece Davis, Digger Phelps, Hubert Davis and Bob Knight. Bilas also is a regular guest on SportsCenter, ESPN Radio, and ESPNEWS.
The former U.S. National Team basketball player was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a studio analyst in both 2007 and 2008. He will be the main speaker that next month’s annual Kentucky Derby Festival luncheon to officially kick off the derby’s events.
