The greatest closer in baseball history is getting into the business of hosting camps. New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera will be the director of a youth baseball camp in conjunction with the sports memorabilia giant Steiner Sports in Mount Vernon, New York at Sports Underdome on May 2nd.
The one-day event will have sessions for boys and girls in grades 1-4 and 5-8. Grades 1-4 will learn the fundamentals of baseball from 9:00 A.M-12:00 P.M with the kids in grades 5-8 going from 1:00-4:00 P.M.
In addition to the instruction, each camper will receive a Rivera signed 8” X 10”, a team photo with the pitcher, and a Mariano Rivera Baseball ProCamp shirt. Registration will cost $249 and more details on the camp can be found at MarianoRiveraCamp.com.
Rivera exemplified class on the baseball diamond during his long Yankees career. The 13-time All-Star saved a major league record 652 games.
When the playoffs rolled around, Rivera was even more dominant. The Yankees won five World Series titles with him in pinstripes. His 0.70 ERA and 42 saves are both postseason records.
Rivera continues to make a difference with his charitable foundation that works with faith-based groups in the U.S. and Panama. Even though he may be retired, there is no question the lasting legacy he has built will make him a popular figure for years to come.
