Baseball fans in Hawaii got a special treat yesterday. Los Angeles Dodgers legend Maury Wills was at the Lahaina Cannery Mall for an autograph signing.
The signing took place from 2-3:40 p.m. In addition to signing for all the fans, Wills also answered baseball questions and posed for photos.
Willis had two separate stints in his career with the Dodgers. He was one of the early practitioners of the stolen base and swiped a total of 586 bases.
Wills was a seven-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner. In 1962, he led the National League in stolen bases and triples on the way to winning league MVP honors.
Wills also won three World Series crowns with Los Angeles. He finished his career with over 2,000 hits and has often been considered for enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Wills got into coaching after his playing career and managed the Seattle Mariners for two seasons. He is currently a representative for the Dodgers Legend Bureau.
