Los Angeles Dodgers Outfielder Yasiel Puig Headlines Earthquake Relief Fundraiser

Last night, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitched in to help earthquake victims in Japan and Ecuador.  The Dodgers held a fundraiser in the left-field plaza prior to yesterday's game against the Miami Marlins.

Star outfielder Yasiel Puig headlined the autograph signing that lasted from 5:30-6 p.m.  Several other players, manager Dave Roberts and broadcaster Jaime Jarrin also joined in.

The suggested minimum donation to receive two autographs was $10.  The proceeds went towards Red Cross relief efforts with the Dodgers matching every contribution.

After being slowed by injuries in 2015, Puig is looking to once again become one of baseball's most feared hitters.  He originally exploded onto the scene as a rookie in 2013, hitting 19 homers and batting .319 in just 104 games.

Puig carried that momentum into 2014.  He was named National League Player of the Month in May and was voted as a starter for the All-Star Game.

To achieve his major league dreams, Puig had to courageously defect from Cuba.  After four unsuccessful attempts, he was transported to Mexico in 2012.
