Last Saturday, Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch returned to his roots. Lynch hosted the Fam 1st Family Youth Football Camp at his alma mater Oakland Tech.
The 9th edition of the camp catered to nearly 1,100 at-risk youth from the San Francisco and Oakland areas. Lynch rose to NFL fame after a similarly difficult background growing up in the region.
Several former and current teammates joined him along with his cousin Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Josh Johnson. The duo launched the foundation to work on a variety of children’s initiatives in 2011.
Lynch has become an elite running back with the Seahawks. He has rushed for over 1,200 yards and ten touchdowns in each of his four full seasons with Seattle.
The five-time Pro Bowler has led the NFC in rushing yards and the NFL in rushing touchdowns for two years running. Last year, Lynch scampered for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns as the Seahawks made it back to the Super Bowl for the second straight season.
The Buffalo Bills originally selected him in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. It is likely that the man now known well by his nickname “Beast Mode” may one day be able to run his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
