New York Mets Hall of Famer Darryl Strawberry to Speak at FCA Night of Champions

As an ordained minister, New York Mets Hall of Famer Darryl Strawberry has devoted the second act of his life to God. He will speak about his faith and other topics this spring at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event in Illinois. 

Strawberry is the featured speaker at the Effingham FCA Night of Champions, taking place on March 17 at Greenville University. Tickets will be $25 for adults and kids 18 and under get in for free. 

Tables are also available. In addition to Strawberry's presentation, they will also spotlight area coaches, players and members of the community at the event. 

Strawberry was one of the most feared hitters in baseball while with the Mets. He was selected to eight straight All-Star games from 1984-91. 

In 1983, Strawberry won the National League Rookie of the Year and three seasons later he helped New York win the World Series. Later in his career, he won three more championships with the New York Yankees. 

Strawberry battled substance abuse issues throughout his career and he now uses his story to inspire and help others. He also profiled his journey with the book, "Straw: Finding My Way."
