Last weekend, David West joined fellow NBA player T.J. Warren to give back to their hometown. The duo paired up to promote the inaugural “Building a Stronger Raleigh Together” campaign.
West and Warren played in a charity basketball game at Broughton High School. They also signed autographs and posed for pictures all with the goal of raising money for the new initiative.
Stronger Raleigh was started to uplift those in poverty in the metropolitan area. It will also assist various education programs and work towards raising high school graduation rates.
West latched on this offseason with the San Antonio Spurs to chase the one thing that has eluded him during his career, an NBA title. He has compiled an impressive resume throughout 12 years in the league.
West spent his first eight seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans franchise and with over 8,000 points is the all-time leading scorer in team history. He also made back-to-back All-Star appearances in 2008 and 2009.
Over the previous four seasons, he has been a key piece of an Indiana Pacers squad that made three straight playoff trips. West was originally a first round pick out of Xavier, where he was the AP National Player of the Year in 2003.
