New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker is one of the greatest athletic products going today to come out of Central Minnesota. This summer, Decker will go back to his roots to speak at the first Central Minnesota Sports Awards banquet.
The banquet is being put on by the St. Cloud Times at the River's Edge Convention Center on June 17th. 1,200-1,500 people are expected to attend.
The Times named Decker the All-Area Boys' Basketball Player of the Year when he was hooping it up at Rocori High School. He also was drafted into Major League Baseball before going onto football success at Minnesota and in the NFL.
This year, Decker has been crucial to the success of the nine win Jets. He currently has 72 receptions for 930 yards and ten touchdowns on the season.
It is his second campaign with New York after signing a five-year, $36 million free agent deal during the 2014 offseason. Last year, he set a career high with 221 receiving yards against the Miami Dolphins in week 17.
Decker spent his first four seasons with the Denver Broncos. He finished his Broncos tenure with back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons and led the AFC in touchdown catches in 2013.
