NFL Draft Prospect Melvin Gordon and NASCAR's Jamie McMurray Host Charity Bowling Event

While fans remain fixated on a variety of headlines swirling around the NFL Draft, one prospect put his efforts towards doing good amidst the hectic week.  Former Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon decided to co-host a charity event while he was in Chicago for his big day.

Gordon joined former Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray at Lucky Strike in downtown Chicago Tuesday for The Stars and Strikes Celebrity Bowling Classic presented by McDonald’s.  The tournament benefited the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

There is no doubt that Gordon will be one of the first running backs chosen in the draft.  He ran for 2,587 yards as a Badger, which ranks second in FBS history.

Gordon was a unanimous All-American, Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year, and the Doak Walker Award winner as a junior.  In his final collegiate game, he rumbled for 251 yards, setting an Outback Bowl record and earning game MVP honors.

The Kenosha, Wisconsin native has been active with his hometown Boys & Girls Club and is looking for more opportunities to impact lives as he grows in football fame.

McMurray has seven Sprint Cup wins to his credit including the 2010 Daytona 500.  He also won the Brickyard 400 that same season which was his first under McDonald’s sponsorship.

His career got off to a fast start when he won in just his second career Cup start as a replacement driver at the UAW-GM Quality 500 in 2002.  Since 2006, The Jamie McMurray Foundation has been a way to extend his influence off the track.
