Olympic Champion Laurie Hernandez Speaks at Exercising Your Character Event in Iowa Next Month

Olympic champion Laurie Hernandez is headed to Iowa next month. She will speak at the Exercising Your Character event in Des Moines on April 13th at Hy-Vee Hall.

The event is hosted by Hy-Vee, Inc. and The Robert and Billie Ray Center at Drake University. The program is geared towards teaching fourth and fifth-grade students about health and wellness.

Over 7,000 students from across central Iowa are expected to take part in the 11th annual event. Registration officially closed on Monday.

Hernandez was a member of the "Final Five" U.S. women's gymnastics team that took home gold in the team competition at the Olympics this past summer. She also won an individual silver medal on the balance beam.

This fall, she went on to take the stage on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and won the Mirror Ball Trophy. In January, she released the book, "I Got This: To Gold and Beyond."

Hernandez originally started her elite career at the age of 12 in 2012. In addition to triumphing on the Olympic stage last year, she also won four bronze medals at U.S. Nationals.
