Prominent College Football Coaches Speak to Louisiana High School Coaches Association

College football season may be right around the corner, but several prominent coaches still made time to speak this week to an influential group at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge.  They were sharing their football thoughts with the Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s annual Coaches Clinic.

The in-town LSU Tigers sent both head coach Les Miles and new defensive line coach Ed Orgeron to talk to the group on Tuesday.  Louisiana-Lafayette head man Mark Hudspeth joined in on Wednesday with thoughts about easily applied concepts and drills.

Finally on the clinic’s final day, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher held a teaching session and Q&A.  The purpose of the clinic is two-fold: sending high school coaches back to the field with useful tips while their college counterparts build bridges that may help their recruiting efforts in the future.

Miles won the 2008 BCS National Championship at LSU and has a career record of 131-50 in 15 seasons with the Tigers and Oklahoma State.  He has the second-most wins of any coach in LSU history and has also won two SEC titles.

Orgeron has built a reputation as one of the top recruiters in the country over 30 plus years of coaching.  In addition to his time as an ace assistant, he has also had head coaching stints at Ole Miss and USC.

Hudspeth is one of the most underrated coaches in the country.  Under his watch, the Ragin’ Cajuns have finished 9-4 and been victorious in the New Orleans Bowl in each of his four seasons.
