Robert Morris University is bringing one of the top coaches in football in to serve as commencement speaker. Mike Tomlin will keynote the school's 92nd ceremony that will be held at the Charles L. Sewall Center.
On May 5th, 200 students will receive master's and doctoral degrees at the graduate commencement. In addition to speaking, Tomlin will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.
The undergraduate commencement will take place the following day and 700 degrees will be conferred. This will be the last year that commencement will be held at the Sewall Center with the UPMC Events Center opening in 2019.
Tomlin has been the head coach of the Steelers since 2007 and has made the playoffs seven times. During his second season, Pittsburgh won Super Bowl XLIII.
With that victory, Tomlin became the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl. Under his tenure, the Steelers have never finished worse than 8-8.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Tomlin was a defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings for one season. He spent five years as the defensive back coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but began his coaching career in the college ranks.
