Steven Bowditch Wins the Byron Nelson and Gives Hope to Those Battling Depression

The game of golf taxes the mind as much as the body making it even more incredible what Steven Bowditch did on Sunday.  Bowditch shot a final-round 64 to win the Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas by four strokes.

What makes that win and every accomplishment he has on the golf course impressive is that he has had to overcome clinical depression to be at the pinnacle of his sport.  This is Bowditch’s second career PGA Tour victory after a triumph last season at the Texas Open.

The Australian is now a Dallas resident perhaps making this victory at Las Colinas, a course he also got married on, even sweeter.  Charley Hoffman finished runner-up at 14-under to Bowditch’s 18-under.

With the win, Bowditch is now 16th in the FedEx Cup standings.  He first played a full-time schedule on the PGA Tour in 2006 and has been a regular on tour since 2011.

In addition to last year’s Texas Open win, Bowditch had five other top 25 finishes.  Overall, he has seven professional wins to his credit.

With each victory, Bowditch becomes an even bigger inspiration to those who battle with depression.  He is a spokesman for the Australian charity beyondblue that helps those with various mental disorders.
