Three-time gold medalist Kristin Armstrong is one of America's most successful modern Olympians. Armstrong has also served as a point of inspiration for many in her home state of Idaho.
The Boise native shared lessons from her career last Thursday as the keynote speaker at the Idaho Business Review Women of the Year banquet. The largest crowd ever turned out to hear Armstrong give a presentation titled, "Greatness always requires passion."
She differentiated between working hard for something we do not care about and working hard for something we do. She was the IBH 2017 Women of the Year and was able to pass the torch to 2018 winner, CBH Homes vice president Ronda Conger, at the ceremony.
Armstrong is the most successful American female cyclist of all-time. She won Olympic gold in the time trial competition in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
Armstrong is a two-time World time trial champion and a four-time National time trial champion. She originally competed as a triathlete before focusing exclusively on cycling when she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis at the age of 27.
Armstrong took a brief retirement from the sport in 2009 to start a family, but further cemented her legacy upon her 2011 return. She is currently an endurance performance director with USA Cycling.
