Penn State University's Student Program Association is gearing up for another distinguished speakers series. Trailblazing athlete Michael Sam is the first presenter up on September 26th.
Sam will speak at the HUB-Robeson Center's Heritage Hall at 8 p.m. Those with a valid Penn State Student ID can get tickets at the HUB or Student Programming Association Office.
There is a full list of eight speakers that was announced on Tuesday. Former second lady Jill Biden will follow Sam on October 10th.
Sam was the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team. The St. Louis Rams selected him in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Sam spent time in training camp with the Rams and on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. He won the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs in 2014.
Sam was the 2014 Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous All-American at the University of Missouri. He now is a speaker and advocate for LGBTQ issues.
