On Saturday, longtime NFL cornerback Charles Tillman is heading back to where he started his legacy in football. Tillman will be promoting his book, "The Middle School Rules of Charles 'Peanut' Tillman: Real Life, Real Lessons, Real Inspiration", in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The book talks about Tillman's diffculties growing up around racism and an unsettled home life. At 10 a.m., he will appear at Barnes and Noble at 5705 Johnston St.
Following at 1 p.m., Tillman will be signing at Cajun Field prior to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's spring football game. He played for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1999-2002.
Tillman was then a second round pick in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He played for the Bears for over a decade, becoming one of the greatest defensive players to ever patrol the Soldier Field turf.
With 36 interceptions, Tillman holds the Bears' cornerbacks record and also is the franchise's all-time leader with nine defensive touchdowns. While with Chicago, he went to two Pro Bowls and Super Bowl XLI.
Last season, Tillman went back to the Super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers. He has also been lauded throughout his career for his community activism and was named the 2013 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
